Cologne is ranked as the 4th largest city in Germany. Because of its large boundary, it was made the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia state. Cologne Cathedral is the most prominent tourist attraction in the town. This church was built during the midst 13th century. It was not completed until 1880. It is listed as a heritage site in UNESCO World Heritage site list. The twelve Romanesque churches are medieval churches featuring Roman architecture. It is claimed that the twelve Romanesque churches are built on a site which used to be a Roman graveyard. Most of the churches were severely destroyed, except St. Maria Lyskirchen church. However, the local government rebuilt the churches and restored them to the original conditions.


Cologne has several medieval houses dated back to the 12th century. Cologne City Hall, also known as Kolner Rathaus is a city hall that features Renaissance style. During 15th century, tower was added to Cologne City Hall. Cologne has three medieval city gates including Eigelsteintor, Hahnentor and Severinstor. Cologne has several tall structures. The tallest structure is a telecommunication tower that measres about 873 feet.

Tourists can find many restaurants at Domkloster. Besides Domkloster, you can also find restaurants at Krefelder Strabe, Barbarossaplatz and Pipinstrabe.

Cologne's layout is designed for bicycle riders. The comprehensive cycle network allows tourists to cycle around the city. Cologne Central Stration offers high speed trains to several destinations in nearby cities such as Paris and Amsterdam. Light rail system is provided by Kolner Verkehrsbetrieb (KVB).
