Chalons-en-Champagne is the capital of Marne department, Champagne-Ardenne region, France. It is a small town and about ¼ of Reims city. Chalons-en-Champagne is the new name of the town. During 1998, the town was renamed from Chalons-sur-Marne to Chalons-en-Champagne.


Chalons has many cathedrals and churches. Popular churches in Chalons-en-Champagne include Saint Etienne's cathedral, Notre-Dame-en-Vaux church, Saint-Alpin and etc. Saint Etienne's cathedral is an ancient Roman Catholic cathedral constructed during the twelve century. It features Gothic style architecture. In 17th century, the people built another 2 close spans for Saint Etienne's cathedral. Notre-Dame-en-Vaux church is one of the outstanding places listed in UNESCO World Heritage. The construction of the church took place in between 1157 – 1217. The oldest church in Chalons-en-Champagne is Saint-Alpin Church. Saint-Alpin church undergoes reconstruction in 1170, features rich details of Gothic and Renaissance styles. The windows of the church have beautiful stained arts.

Tourists can visit the town museum to view painting artworks that date from the fourteenth century to twentieth century. The sculpture of the head of John the Baptist is exhibited at the museum. The sculpture, which dates back to the 16th century, is a piece of artwork by Rodin. In the museum, there is an archaeology room that contains excavations from other regions. There is a collection of more than three thousand bird in the Ornithology room.

The street of Rue de Chastillon has many buildings in medieval architecture style. A house located on Rue Croix-dex-Teinturiers features art nouveau style. There are several half timbered houses and brick houses located on the street.

You can visit the 18th century garden, Petit et Grand Jard in Chalons. The garden is divided into 3 sections. At the garden, there is a large green lawn and many shrubs. Marche castle can be found at the garden. The garden also has many chestnut trees. The path is lined by tall trees.
