Caen is the capital of Lower Normandy region, France. While at Caen, visitors can observe the ancient buildings left behind by William the Conqueror. The grave of William the Conqueror is located in the town as well. Caen is ranked as the second largest municipality in Normandy. It has many administrative institutions because it is a political center. If you want to go to the south border of England, you have to take a ferry route called Caen-Qiestreham-Portsmouth ferry route. Many tourists like to visit the Chateau de Caen. Chateau de Caen was built during 1060. It was built under the command of William the Conqueror in 1066. There are two popular abbeys in Caen including Eglise St-Etienne and Eglise de la Ste-Trinite. Eglise St-Etienne is an 11th century abbey that is built in remembrance of St. Stephen. Eglise de la Ste-Trinite is also an 11th century abbey dedicated to God.

Tourists can visit the memorial of World War II and Battle for Caen at Memorial de Caen. In the museum, you will find memorial gardens dedicated to nations that help France obtain liberation. There are several gardens in Caen including Jardin botanique de Caen, and Parc Festyland. If you want to go shopping, you can visit Mondeville. Many stores and cinemas can be found at Mondeville. Mondeville covers an area of sixty thousand meter square. Carrefour is the largest store at Mondeville.

Several restaurants can be found at Avenue Henry Cheron, Avenue du Marechal Montgomery and Quai Vendeuvere. There are a few excellent restaurants at Rue Buquet, Rue Vaugeux, and Rue Graindorg.

There are a number of highways in Caen that link to major cities including A13, and N13 highways. At Ouistreham, there is a small ferry terminal. Tourists can take the ferry and travel to Portsmouth in England. The local railway station offers train services to destinations located in between Pairs and Cherbourg. Cain – Carpiquet Airport is the nearest airport to the town. It offers flight services to destinations in Europe such as Algeria, Germany and England.
