Paris Hotels

Paris's world-renowned elegance is visible in all facets of its experience, including its hotels. If you are one of the millions of annual visitors to the city and are looking to spend your nights in the same artistic beauty as the rest of the city, your biggest problem will be deciding which historic hotel is best for you.

The most natural starting point for anyone interested in the most opulent of stays would be the Hôtel Ritz. A cornucopia of famous guests over the years gives this standing member of "The Leading Hotels of the World" its stamp of approval. Charlie Chaplin, Ernest Hemingway, The Shah of Iran and George H. W Bush have all spent nights there; Elton John even rented out an entire floor for his 42nd birthday. The 159-room hotel offers multiple restaurants and bars, and the Imperial Suite just by itself is listed as a National Monument of France!

A fascinating fusion of modern comfort and important French history can be found at the Hôtel Lutetia in the Saint-German-des-Prés area. Today it is one of Paris's seven palace hotels, and is referenced as one of the early examples of Art Deco architecture. However in World War II it assumed a variety of critical roles as the city repeatedly changed hands, first as a home for refugee artists and musicians, then as a German command center, and then finally a repatriation center following Paris's liberation.

Those looking for something a little more modern, or perhaps a gorgeous view of the city, can find both at the Hôtel Concorde La Fayette near the Porte Maillot. The 33-floor hotel is located near one of Paris's convention centers and contains more than 1,000 rooms.

If you are literally looking for something off the beaten path, check out the Beat Hotel (now known as Le Relais du Vieux Paris) in Paris's Latin corner. Though ownership has long since changed hands, the location still relishes its role in carrying on the Beat Poet's history. The original Beat Hotel was a central meeting place for this mid-20th century revolutionary generation; its counterculture embrace went so deep as to let patrons paint their own rooms (sorry, you can't do that anymore).

Like the rest of the city itself, if you are looking for a variety of wonderful visitor experiences, you can find it all in the splendor and beauty of the hotels of Paris. Enjoy your stay!
