Paris Events and Festivals

An all-year-round gala in Paris might not sound like much, especially since Paris is, for most, the epitome of party merriment. However, one cannot ignore the fact that Paris has been celebrating at least one event for every month on the calendar. Let's take a look at some.

January starts off with a grand parade to celebrate the coming of the New Year. This is quickly followed by the Fête des Rois or the Epiphany, which typically happens during the first Sunday of the month. The Fête des Rois is characterized by digging into a cake with frangipan filling and the coronation of a king and a queen.

In February, the French celebrate the Chinese New Year with a parade of colorful dragons, stylish flags adorned by Chinese fonts, dancers as well as musicians. This may well continue through the night with theater and musical performances.

There are quite a few festivals during the month of March. Some of these include the Festival Exit for modern arts, the Women's Film Festival, the International Jazz Festival in the town of Seine-Saint-Denis, and the Foire de Paris focusing on food and winery.

The French commemorate April first with a prank-filled day. April also brings an event called the International Marathon of Paris, which is a forty-two kilometer jog that takes you through most of the famous highlights of the French capital.

In May, Paris is alive with a parade honoring the end of World War II as well as other events like the Montmartre Vintage Car Rally, and Foire du Trône.

June brings around another Paris Jazz Festival in which each breakthrough in jazz history is commemorated through a series of free concerts in the Parc Floral. These concerts are held on Sundays and Saturdays and usually extend up to July.

July takes the festival of Bastille Day. This event occurs on the fourteenth day of the month and is done in honor of the raid of the Bastille on the beginning of the French Revolution.

With August comes the yearly Festival of the Bizarre. September, on the other hand, features garden tours throughout the city. October brings the International Dance Festival while November carries with it the Tennis Masters Series and Armistice Day. And finally, Paris is also host to events like the Boat Fair, Autumn Festival and of course, Christmas in December.

There you are. A year in Paris sounds even more festive now, doesn't it? Make sure to check the actual dates so you can plan your vacation to experience these festivals.
