If you are desirous of travelling to UK or Europe at a reasonably economic cost, bmi baby could be your best pock provided you can board the plane from Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester or East Midlands. This airline has only these four bases and you can avail the special schemes of this airline only if you can board a flight from one of the four bases. This is one of the lowest cost airlines and if you can avail a seat in one of their Boeings, you can save quite a hefty sum. It is a British airline which caters to the needs of the commoners who find travelling very expensive.
The two bases at Manchester and Cardiff will sooner be closed and people will no longer have the facility of availing flights from either of these two places. Now instead of these two places, this airline will sooner open a new base at Airport of Belfast City known as Belfast City Airport. Their website bmibaby.com offers numerous eximious services to its passengers and has earned a name for itself within quite a short time. This particular airline came into existence in the year 2002 and the date was 24 January. Although it was not launched on that date yet it is of quite significance.
The first flight of bmi baby ran between Malaga and East Midlands after couple of months of its establishment. It happened in the same year and the date of the first flight was 22 March. Increase in the number of passengers led to its further expansions and gradually it set up its base at Cardiff in the month of October. Since then there was no turning back and a new base was again set up at Manchester in the following year in the month of March. Almost after a semester another base was set up at Durham Tess Valley but did not prove to be a success. No sooner than it's set up that it was shut down due to low frequency of passengers. 2006 was the year in which the closure of this base took place. An important base at Birmingham was set up in the year 2005 which had reasonable number of passengers in the initial couple of years but gradually witnessed a great decline in their rate. Hence a mutual decision of its closure had been taken and will soon come into action very recently.
Bmi baby prides itself on holding an Operating License of the Type A, which entitles it to carry not only passengers but also cargo and even mail. According to the license the use of these features are restricted only to those aircrafts which are provided with seats not less than twenty in number. This was a big advantage and it turned out to be a boon for this airline and paved the way of its progress. The most commendable feature of this airline was noted in the year 2007 with its 'choose your plan' feature. The passengers were allowed to pay only for those services which they desired to avail and this feature further cut the cost of travel remarkably. It was designed keeping the business travelers in mind and who often had to travel and pay unnecessary expenses even for the facilities they least desired. With the innovative scheme they could choose from the vast range of facilities provided such as online check-in, ticket flexibility and lounge access meant for the executives. Another luring feature that was announced for the travelers included the Diamond Club Membership of BMI. This was exclusively for only those travelers who travelled frequently on bmi baby.
These innovative features sooner made bmi baby a very demotic airline and Birmingham Airport became its largest base. By the year 2007, it vaunted of its nine aircrafts which were all Boeing 737. The glory did not last long and a decrease in the number of passengers began to be gradually noticed which led to the termination of five routes from the particular airport just the following year. City breaks were less booked by the passengers and the prime reason for this is still an enigma. Nevertheless, it did not stop here and the termination process continued even in some years which followed. It was a necessary step to prevent the company from incurring further losses.
The prime focus shifted to development of plans which could boost the growth routes of the company and compensate for the huge losses that it had incurred in the last few years. The decision of closing the bases of bmi baby at Manchester and Cardiff is considered to be a major step in this initiative of growth process. This closure would ensure more success rate at East Midlands and Birmingham since the services at those two bases are deemed to increase considerably.
