The London Eye

The London Eye, which is also called as the Millennium Wheel, is one of the largest observational wheels in the world. It provides an overview of London; the Eye has become a major tourist attraction.

It is a 151 m/495 ft diameter vertical wheel which has glass enclosed pods. The wheel is located besides River Thames in London, England, near Waterloo Station and County Hall station.

The wheel carries 32 sealed and air-conditioned ovoid passenger capsules, attached to its external circumference, each capsule representing one of the London Boroughs. Each 10 tonne capsule holds 25 people. The people inside the capsule can walk freely inside it although seating facility is also provided. It rotates at 26 cm per second which helps the capsule to complete one revolution in 30 minutes.

The EYE serves to be the heart of the city. Other than its being a delightful thing to look at – a surreal, kinetic sculpture, a universal expression of geometric purity, a continuation of Britain’s engineering heritage.
