Some Facts About Montpellier
Montpellier is a city located in southern France. This city is the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon region. It stands 8th as the biggest city of France and has made rapid development in last 25 years. This city is only among the few cities which do not have a Roman background. The city stands on a hilly ground which is about 10 km from the Mediterranean. This city was originally named as Monspessulanus or le mont de la colline .The highest point Place du Peyrou is situated at an altitude of 57 m above sea level. Due to location of the city on the hilly lands the streets are highly narrow and old. Montepellier enjoys mostly the Mediterranean Climate due to its location nearby to Sea.

Musée Fabre:
Musée Fabre is a museum that was founded by François-Xavier Fabre in 1825 and this museum houses the paintings from the 17th until the 19th century, which largely represents the luminophiles movement.
There are a large number of Hotels which serve as a historical center.
Place de la Comédie:
It is the main focal point of the city and is located at the south-west point of the city. This place is famous for its fortifications that took place in the city. At the center of the place is situated a fountain which is called as the Three Graces, which was built by Etienne d’Antoine in 1790.
Jardin des plantes de Montpellier:
Jardin des plantes de Montpellier is the oldest botanical garden in France and it was founded in 1930.
Saint Pierre Cathedral:
Saint Pierre Cathedral is the 14th century cathedral mainly inspired by Roman Gothic architecture. It is declared as the monument of national importance by the French Government. This cathedral earlier used to be the seats of Archbishops (previous Bishops of Montpellier).
Transport:
Montpellier is served by TGV railways which offer a high speed access to various parts of France. The main railway station is St. Roch. If you are travelling from London then taking train from London to Paris is a great option. From Paris Gare Du Nord station you can take TGV to proceed further.
Montpellier – Mediterranean Airport serves this city and provides direct flights to all over the world. It is located in the town of Mauguio on the southeast of Montpellier.
